I selected “other”. I think the other choices you listed are great and all will eventually grow and develop as the medium does. However, I’d like to see more integration with existing web applications. For me, the metaverse – and OpenSim specifically – is the next portal to the internet as a whole. Viewers will be the new web browser and grids will be the new web servers. Individual sims will be personal blogs that can be experienced from within. To get to that point though, we need to start building connections between the blogs and websites of today and the active metaverse. Media on a prim and “world in a browser” technologies are a start, but individuals can help by finding unique ways to link their blogs to their grids or regions beyond just pictures and videos.

I think that we’ll see more and more of that and I don’t think we’re far away from the first steps. There have been examples in the past, not very well done though, with 3D websites, but I’m sure things would be better now.

True, true. Right now, Cloud Party has my attention because it’s the first true world in a browser. It has limitations compared to opensim, and of course it’s not open source, but I like where it’s going. Just the possibility of having your world available through your site rather than just a HG link is great. But, it doesn’t have (at least to my knowledge) great communication between inworld objects and the internet which OpenSim does. Also an important feature.

Perhaps it could be a good thing that the website visitors wouldn’t be able to change anything in the 3D world. At least not in the beginning. The might just be visitors and not real participants.

I selected other because I think Cyber sex is icky, and I don’t really understand what the hell “enhanced” is supposed to mean in this sense- I would like it all to be less crashy, and I would like to be able to hypergrid to Kitely, 3rd Rock and the Myst game, and culturally I would like to see it become less ageist, sexist and eurocentric. How do ya like them apples?

Hm, I haven’t seen the 3D world as you have seen it I think. In SL I had so many friends there that were between 55 and 75. And those where the ones that I knew how old they were. I don’t count all the countless kids that communicated with short phrases like: Wanna have sex? Or the less verbal ones: Oy sex?

What do you mean with Eurocentric?

So much of the attraction of virtual worlds is the perfect immersive experience. The extension of a pseudo dream state complete with close mind touch. A communication we can not experience in RL which in virtual worlds comes easily. We share and trust like children. This is the enhancement to reality that continues to develop and many of us are addicted to. Where else can you be so far away in RL and so close mentally.
